BackStriker takes little comfort from first-half heroics
Disappointed Danny Welbeck admits Manchester United's draw with Basel feels like a defeat after letting a two-goal lead slip at Old Trafford.
The thrilling UEFA Champions League Group C encounter ended 3-3, but United held a 2-0 lead at half-time, courtesy of Welbeck's
brace.
Basel bit back, though, and turned the game on its head with three goals in 18 second-half minutes to leave United shell-shocked.
Ashley Young
nodded in a late equaliser for the hosts, but Welbeck took little comfort from the point and his early double.
Result
When asked if it felt like a loss he replied: "Definitely, yes, because we went into half-time 2-0 up and Manchester United
should be finishing teams off, it's just not like us.
"In the second half we didn't start as bright as we should have. They play it from the back well and we found it difficult.
"But we're really disappointed with the result today but we just have to get on with it.
"To get two goals in the Champions League - I'm obviously happy with that - but it's a team game and, as I said, I'm disappointed."
