Hands up! Manchester United targets Wesley Sneijder

Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been heavily linked with a move for the Holland international since his successful World Cup campaign and helping Inter to the Treble under Jose Mourinho last season.

The capture of Snejder would go someway to appeasing star striker Wayne Rooney who last week publicly questioned  the club's ambition before signing a new five-year deal.


Talks over a new contract at the San Siro for Sneijder appear to have stalled and United are waiting in the wings to pounce.

However, Inter president Massimo Moratti insists his prized-asset will sign a new deal - and possibly before the end of this week.

Moratti confirmed:  'I think this week he will renew his contract.'

Sneijder still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal and is valued at around £27million.
