Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has apologised for using offensive language after scoring against West Ham United.

The England international proceeded to swear into a camera after netting a hat-trick in the match, which ended 4-2 after United went 2-0 down.

The 25-year-old has since been slapped with a two-match ban, and he will miss the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against arch-rivals Manchester City.

"With the swearing incident, I didn’t realise what I’d done," Rooney told talkSPORT

"It was just emotions, it was a release if you like of scoring the three goals to get us back in the game.

"As soon as I realised after the game I apologised as soon as I could. Of course it was wrong of me to do but I accept my punishment and you just have to move on. Hopefully the boys can pull through for me on Saturday and get to that FA Cup final."
