Manchester United winger Nani is disappointed at the departure of defensive duo Wes Brown and John O’Shea to Sunderland.
The Portuguese international has revealed that Brown was key to helping him settle in to life at Old Trafford, but knows the 31-year-old will not hold back next time they face each other in the Premier League.
Speaking to MUTV, Nani said: "I think Wes has had a brilliant career in United. He was a very important player for United and is a fantastic professional and a good friend.
"He helped the young lads a lot and was always ready to play with the team-mates. He's a very friendly player and was very close to me as well. I enjoyed my time I played with him."
When asked whether his former team-mate will be just as competitive against him next season, Nani replied: “One hundred per cent! He kicked me of course in training. This is the way he played and why he's been a fantastic player."
Republic of Ireland international O’Shea has also completed a move to the Stadium of Light, signing a four-year-deal with the north-east club.
"I've enjoyed playing with a lot of players and these two players were very good for me as well because of the experience they've got," Nani added. "They helped me a lot as well and I do the parties and go out with them and enjoy the life outside the football.
"They are very good people and I hope they do well and keep doing their best at Sunderland."
