As you already know Wayne has been voted player of the year by his peers in the Professional Footballers' Association (also in the Reporter). I think this award hasn't surprised anyone. Rooney has been outstanding this season.
Anyway, I'm copying the players who have been nominated:
Premier League team of the year:

These aren't the players who have been nominated, these are the players who make up the PFA team of the year. The four Premiership players who were nominated were Drogba, Rooney, Fabregas and Tevez.
Talking of Rooney..."I'm enjoying the title race. We need Chelsea to slip up now so hopefully Liverpool or Wigan can do us a favour," said Rooney.
"Liverpool are a proud club with a lot of history and I'm sure they'll want to win as they're fighting for the Europa League."
Liverpool might not take too kindly to the appeal considering he omitted to say they are actually still in the hunt for a Champions League place. Hahahahaha!!

Wayne Rooney obtained this Friday his(her,your) second important prize in an extraordinary season, when it was named by the first time as Football player of the Year of the League Premier by the Journalist(Journalists') English Association of Football (FWA).
In this voting, the Argentine forward of the Manchester City Carlos Tevez was third, overcome also for the attacker of the Chelsea Didier Drogba.
Rooney, which has marked 34 goals for the United in all the competitions this season, achieved 80 per cent of the votes issued(emitted) by the members of the FWA
